Hill-Lopes Scholars will be introduced and connected to a network of women working in academic and non-academic STEM careers to identify additional mentorship opportunities, to facilitate career exploration and networking opportunities, and to be exposed to supportive, positive role models.
Hill-Lopes Scholars, under mentorship guidance, will be connected to existing campus resources such as the Center for Women in Technology (CWIT). Activities will include off-campus trips to attend relevant events and to network with industry professionals. Scholars will also participate in WISE (Women in Science and Engineering) faculty events, which will include regular networking meetings held each semester.
The Office of the Dean of the College of Natural and Mathematical Sciences (CNMS), with the support of the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs at UMBC, will implement and monitor the Hill-Lopes Scholars Program. In addition to providing logistical and administrative support, CNMS will administer the award and scholarship disbursement processes. CNMS will also coordinate the work of mentors to ensure continuity of the community and program.
